This black and white or monochromatic crayon drawing of a young muscular twink is a cropped vignette.
When I draw, I get to explore subjects and draw them in experimental ways that I might not be able to in oil. I think that I throw away or hide just as many drawings as I make because sometimes they aren't as successful as I would like them to be. I think this one is successful.
The way in which this is drawn is an attempt to incorporate shading, mark making and also an exploration of the anatomy of a thin young man. The marks or hatch marks, are designed to follow the contours and directions of the muscle masses beneath the skin. I was also thinking of the artist Egon Schiele when I drew this and his attenuated figures and his beautiful contour lines.
I draw with black crayons rather than charcoal or pencil because the drawings are sturdier and won't smear or get damaged as much as more delicate or smudgeable materials.
The drawing paper is acid free which means it won't yellow or become brittle over time.
The size is a standard US frame size and can be framed inexpensively. Try buying a frame on the net.
