The focus of this painting was to take the focus away from the face and to crop the image down to the elements of this model's body that drew me to him, hence the radical cropping and the focus on the torso. I wanted the cropping to feel a bit like how a mask might look. One of the interesting things about images of superheroes, such as Batman, is that the mask deemphasizes the face but emphasizes the jaw line and the torso of the character.

The paint is applied in thick layers (artists use the Italian term "impasto" translates to the English word "paste.) The textures of the paint vary across the painting. The background is troweled on with knives and scrapers while the figure's paint texture shows the stiff bristle brushes. The textures of the figures are designed to follow the directions of the muscles and planes of the body.

This is painted on stretched "gallery wrapped" canvas. The stretcher bars are wrapped with canvas and so you won't need to frame this if you like how the edges look.

Lately there have been some fake websites springing up and stealing my images and publishing them but then not shipping the art to my collectors so please only use the following sites to collect my work.
