This is the second version of this subject I've made as a painting. The first one, which was much smaller has already been collected, but there were things, details, and textures that I wanted to explore in a larger version of the painting.
In particular I wanted to explore the differences in texture between the various surfaces and planes in the figure against the background. I think one of the things that adds visual interest is how the planes of muscles are heightened by the direction of the brushstrokes against the troweled on impastos of the background.
By using the complimentary colors of blue and orange I also created a similar tension between the figure and the color of the background.
