This portrait was done in conjunction with the photographer named Lee Fairchild. The subject matter of the beautiful muscle bearded male is one of my favorite things to paint.
The paint is applied in thick layers that are called in Italian "impostos." If you look closely at the brushwork and the texture of the painting they are designed to heighten the illusion of the physical forms by following the contours and directions of the planes of the body.
